Child dies, six rescued as three-storey building collapses in Lagos [Photos]
A child lost his life on Saturday when a three-storey building collapsed at Freeman Street in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
While search and rescue operation is still being conducted by emergency responders, six victims were said to have been rescued alive from the rubble of the collapsed building.
It was gathered that the victims were asleep when tragedy struck in the early hours.
Confirming the incident, the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the corpse had been taken to the mortuary, adding that on the spot treatment had been administered to the rescued victim.
He said,
“The Agency responded to emergency calls on the collapsed building at Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
“Upon arrival at the incident scene at 4am, a three-storey building was discovered to have totally collapsed on people asleep inside. Six victims have been extricated from the rubble alive while a single male child was recovered dead.”
