Bye-Elections: Police intercepts bus carrying political thugs in Yobe
In a joint effort with the Nigerian Army, the Yobe State Police Command successfully intercepted an 18-seater bus carrying political thugs in Gashua Local Government Area.
The bus, heading to Damaturu Metropolitan Council, aimed to disrupt the electoral process in an upcoming bye-election.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, provided details in a statement, stating, “A military checkpoint intercepted the bus while conveying thugs to Damaturu Metropolitan Council to cause mayhem in the electoral process but made their Waterloo, and the police took them into custody for a district investigation and subsequent prosecution.”
The seven arrested suspects claimed they were recruited to serve as agents for one of the opposition parties in the state. An investigation is underway to uncover the criminal implications of the matter.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, expressed the commitment of the police and sister security agencies to ensure the security and safety of the electorate.
He urged the public to remain resolute, avoid violence, and reject thug-related activities, emphasizing the firm action against any untoward deviation.
