BREAKING: Algeria beat Cote d’Ivoire on penalties, to face Nigeria in AFCON 2019 semi-final

Algeria beat Cote d’Ivoire 4-3 on penalties in the quarter-final match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt to join Senegal and Nigeria in the semi-finals.

Ex-West Ham player Sofiane Feghouli slots in the opening goal for Algeria in the 20th minute, but Baghdad Bounedjah blew his chance to double the score after his penalty hits the bar in the first five minutes of the second half.

Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia fires in equaliser for Ivory Coast in the 62nd minute to set the stage for a hotter contest which went into 30 minutes extra time and later penalty shoot-out to decide Nigeria’s opponent in the semi-final.

Algeria will face Nigeria in Cairo semi-final on Sunday.
