Birdman, Benny Boom to produce Nigerian drama, ‘Tazmanian Devil’
Rap mogul Bryan “Birdman” Williams is linking up with acclaimed director Benny Boom to produce a new Nigerian drama heading to movie theatres.
The pair are working together to finance Solomon Onita Jr.’s upcoming drama “Tazmanian Devil,” which stars Abraham Attah (“Beasts Of No Nation”), Adepero Oduye (“When They See Us”), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (“The Chi”), and Kwesi Boakye (“Claws”).
“Tazmanian Devil” centres around a 19-year-old Nigerian immigrant named “Dayo,” played by Abraham Attah. After moving to the US, Dayo struggles to bond with his father (Mwine) who abandoned him and his mother (Oduye), in Nigeria. When he joins a college fraternity, he is challenged by his father, leaving him in search of his own moral ground.
Birdman decided to work with Benny Boom and his company Groundwurk Studios after a successful 20-year relationship.
Over the past two decades, Benny has Benny crafted visuals for Cash Money’s roster of artists, including the Hot Boyz, Juvenile, Big Tymers, Birdman, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Drake.
“I am honoured to work with Benny; we share a great history in the music business over the past 20 years,” Birdman said.
“Benny and I have often discussed making films together and this project presented us with the perfect opportunity to produce a great movie.”
No official release date has been revealed, but the film is currently in the post-production stage.
“It’s exciting to join forces with Benny to tell a unique story on the big screen,” added Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams.
“We’ve built a platform to succeed together and open the door for some very exciting projects in the future as well. It all begins with “Tazmanian Devil.”
