Bayelsa poll: abducted INEC SPO regains freedom
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Bayelsa State has announced the safe release of its Supervisory Presiding Officer who was abducted on Friday.
The SPO had been seized by gunmen while en route to the Registration Area Centre – 06 (Ossioma) in Sagbama Local Government Area.
The Head of Voter Education and Publicity for the state INEC in Yenagoa, Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, provided reassurance of the officer’s well-being in a statement made available to the press on Saturday.
Mr. Ifogah stated that the officer is hale and hearty and had been unharmed during the abduction.
The abducted officer, whose identity was not disclosed, was reportedly taken while waiting at Amassoma Jetty, where he was to board a boat for his designated deployment.
As of now, the spokesperson for the state police, CSP Asinim Butswat, has not been available for comments on the incident.
