The Bayelsa State Government has announced the recruitment of 1,500 teachers for primary and secondary schools across the state, in a move aimed at improving the quality of education.

The announcement was made by Governor Douye Diri, represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during the quarterly meeting of the Bayelsa Elders Council held in Yenagoa over the weekend.

Governor Diri highlighted his administration’s efforts to boost science and technology education, noting the construction of standard technical colleges in five out of the state’s eight local government areas.

“In addition to the existing technical colleges, contracts will soon be awarded for the construction of three more technical colleges in the remaining local government areas,” he stated.

Breaking down the deployment of the newly recruited teachers, the governor explained that about 400 will be assigned to the new technical colleges, 230 will be deployed to primary schools, and the largest share of 930 teachers will be sent to secondary schools.

The recruitment is part of the state government’s broader strategy to enhance the education sector and ensure that schools are adequately staffed with qualified teachers, particularly in technical fields.
