Barcelona sign Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €29 million, including performance-related add-ons.
The Spanish champions confirmed the transfer on Thursday, adding another attacking option to Hansi Flick’s squad.
According to AFP, the 24-year-old signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Barcelona until June 30, 2031.
“Adeyemi becomes a new Barca player for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031,” the club said.
The German international becomes Barcelona’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
The club had earlier signed England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Barcelona sign Adeyemi to strengthen attack
Adeyemi can operate as a central forward or on either wing.
His pace and versatility will give Flick more options following several changes in Barcelona’s attack.
Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has left the club, while Marcus Rashford returned to Manchester United after completing his loan spell.
Their departures reduced Barcelona’s attacking options and increased the need for new signings.
The club has also submitted a bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
However, the Argentine remains Barcelona’s main attacking target for the summer transfer window.
Adeyemi’s arrival gives the club another proven forward while negotiations for Alvarez continue.
Flick reunites with German forward
Flick already knows Adeyemi from their time with the German national team.
The Barcelona coach handed the attacker his senior international debut in 2021.
Adeyemi later joined Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022.
He spent four seasons with the German club and scored 36 goals in 146 matches across all competitions.
His performances in Germany established him as one of Europe’s fastest attacking players.
Barcelona will expect him to add pace, movement and flexibility to a forward line undergoing major changes.
The transfer also marks the next stage of Adeyemi’s career after spells in Austria and Germany.
He will now compete in La Liga as Barcelona aim to defend their domestic title and challenge for major European honours.
