Banky W calls Adesua ‘baby mama’ after court declares Ikoyi registry marriages illegal
Popular Nigerian singer, Olubankole Wellington, professionally known as Banky W, has reacted to the recent court pronouncement that declared all marriages conducted at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry as illegal and invalid.
Before now, there was an ongoing legal tussle between local government authorities and the Federal Government to determine who has the power to operate marriage registries, conduct marriages and issue marriage certificates.
A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, however, ruled in favour of Eti Osa Local Government.
The court stated that it is statutorily the job of the local governments as provided by the law and only LGAs have the power to do such and the acts of the federal government through the ministry of interior operating marriage registries is clearly beyond their powers, which makes all marriages conducted by federal marriage registries or through their agents illegal and invalid.
Reacting to the verdict, Banky who tied the knot with his actress wife, Adesua, at the Ikoyi registry in 2017, teasingly refers to his wife as ‘Baby Mama’ on his twitter page that has 3.5m followers.
