In a deadly ambush, bandits killed four soldiers and set two military operational vehicles ablaze in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attack occurred on Saturday in a border town within the state.
According to the PUNCH, the Sole Administrator of Gudu Local Government Area, Umar Balle confirmed the incident
Balle, who was present with the military during the attack, revealed that he narrowly escaped death.
According to Balle, the soldiers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
“So far, four soldiers have died, and about six or seven others were wounded due to gunshot injuries,” Balle reported.
He added that the injured soldiers were initially treated at Gudu General Hospital before being transferred to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto on Sunday.
Two military operational vehicles were also destroyed in the attack. Attempts to reach officials of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division for comment were unsuccessful.
However, a source within the division, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and disclosed that additional troops had been deployed to the area.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Sokoto State government were also unsuccessful, as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), could not be reached at the time of reporting.
