Gunmen suspected to be bandits over the weekend stormed Banye village head, Alhaji Bishir Gide Banye, in the Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Banye was whisked away with another victim that eyewitnesses confirmed was a secondary school student.

A resident of the town who craved anonymity disclosed that the heavily armed attackers who invaded the town on Friday night went straight to the palace of the village head.

Daily Trust reported that the village is one of the communities affected by the mobile network shutdown in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State, due to its proximity to the area.

The source said that the situation gave the attackers the opportunity to conduct the abduction unchallenged as residents could not alert security men.

This is the second time a village head has been abducted in the area.

Recall that the village head of Barkiya town in Kurfi Local Government Area was earlier kidnapped.

The Barkiya community head was, however, lucky to be rescued as security operatives were immediately alerted.

When contacted, Katsina Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, could not immediately confirm the report.

As of the time of filing this report, he couldn’t be reached.
