Ban on inter-state movement not enough to curb COVID-19 – NMA
The Secretary-General of the Nigerian Medical Association [NMA], Dr Olumuyiwa Odusote, says ban on inter-state movements by the Federal Government was not enough to curb community transmission of COVID-19.
Odusote on Wednesday said while the ban would localise the virus in states and prevent it from crossing states borders, community transmission could still happen within the states through the public transportation system.
He said,
“The ban on inter-state movements is not enough to curb community transmission of COVID-19 considering other issues surrounding security and economy.
“But the ban will give an opportunity to make sure the virus is localised within the states and reduce the spread so it helps in the containment. We expect relevant authorities to come out with details about the policy.”
