Bamford penalty seals 1-0 win for Leeds against Burnley

Patrick Bamford converted an early penalty to help Leeds United beat Burnley by 1-0 at Elland Road on Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Marcelo Biesla’s men returned to winning ways after their 6-2 mauling at Old Trafford against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ruthless Manchester United side last time out.

Burnley’s Nick Pope caught goal bound Bamford in the in yard box  to give the home side a penalty very early in the game which the striker converted in the 5th minute.

The visitors attempted to restore parity with at least 14 shots against Leeds’ 11 but their six shots on target failed to find the back of the net after 90+ minutes.

Sean Dyche’s men thought they had equalised when Ashley Barnes found the back of the net in the 18th minute but the referee ruled it out for a controversial foul on Illan Meslier by Ben Mee.

Burnley however, managed to dominate the second half but were denied by the sturdy defense of Leeds who made sure they take all three points after the game.

Bamford has now netted his 10th goal of the season as Leeds move to 11th on the log with 20 points while Burnley lie 16th with 13 points.
