Award-winning comedian Ayo Makun has touched hearts with his birthday message to fellow comedian, Basketmouth, following their recent reconciliation.
Basketmouth, who turned 46 on September 14, 2024, shared a photo on his Instagram, stating, “Say hello to the Birthday Boy. Life begins @ 46.”
Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, left a heartfelt message in the comments section. He called Basketmouth “Eze Gburugburu 1,” a title that signifies respect and authority, and wished him joy, laughter, and success on his special day.
AY wrote, “Happy birthday, my bro. I wish you a fantastic birthday filled with joy and laughter! May your hard work and dedication continue to pay off. May this year bring you new adventures, exciting opportunities, and all the success you deserve. Enjoy your special day to the fullest. Eze Gburugburu 1 for a reason.”
Basketmouth responded with gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much bro. I appreciate you.”
This public exchange comes after years of tension between the two comedians. The feud was reportedly over a ₦30,000 debt that AY claimed Basketmouth refused to pay, leading to a fallout between them. AY had explained in an interview that the disagreement had strained their relationship for years, despite his efforts to reconcile.
However, in October 2023, Basketmouth surprised many by offering a public apology. In a video posted on his Instagram, he apologized to AY for any hurt he may have caused and called for peace. He also apologized to others in the industry who might have been affected by his actions, stating that he wanted to make amends.
“I apologize to anyone in the industry I’ve offended, knowingly or unknowingly,” Basketmouth said. He humorously added that his apology was partly because he had a show coming up and wanted his tickets to sell.
