Attahiru, six others for burial on Saturday

The Nigerian Army has announced that the remains of its late chief Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and six senior officers would be interred on Saturday in Abuja.

Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, Director of Army Public Relations issued the statement in the early hours of Saturday.

Daily Post reported that the funeral will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The interment for all seven is scheduled for the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, at 1:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has expressed sadness over the deaths of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 others in a plane crash in Kaduna on Friday evening.

Reacting to their deaths, Buhari said the deceased officers will not die in vain.

He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari is deeply saddened over the air crash that claimed the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers.”

“The President condoles with families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”

“While praying that God receives the souls of the patriots, the President says the crash “is one mortal blow to our underbelly, at a time our armed forces are poised to end the security challenges facing the country.

“The President pledged that the departed would not die in vain.”
