Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that politicians under investigation by security and anti-corruption agencies are often protected from prosecution after defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Speaking after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku claimed that harassment and corruption-related cases against political figures suddenly end once they align with the APC.

“Once a person joins the APC, the harassment by security and anti-corruption agencies ceases, and the charges against them magically disappear. This abuse of power must stop,” he said.

The former presidential candidate further accused the Federal Government of using state institutions to intimidate opposition figures, warning against any attempt to undermine the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku specifically cautioned the Presidency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the judiciary against interfering in the affairs of the opposition party.

“Let me warn again that any further attempt to interfere in the affairs of the ADC by the presidency, INEC, and judiciary will be fiercely resisted. Enough is enough,” Atiku declared.

His comments come amid growing political realignments and defections ahead of the next election cycle, as opposition parties continue to raise concerns over alleged political intimidation and abuse of state institutions.
