Nigerian Afrobeats star Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has met Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, and pleaded for leniency for a man arrested after firing gunshots in his honour during his visit to Accra.
The incident involved a fan identified as Cyborg, also known as Abubakari Sadick, who was arrested on December 29, 2025, after discharging a rifle into the air in a public place. The act, carried out in excitement over Asake’s presence, sparked public safety concerns and violated Ghana’s firearms laws.
Asake made the appeal during an interaction with President Mahama on December 30 at the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra. The singer was at the event alongside members of his entourage and other notable guests.
During the exchange, President Mahama recalled the incident and asked, “He’s the one the guy fired the gun for?” Those present responded in the affirmative.
“And he ended up in trouble,” the President added, drawing laughter from those at the gathering.
Asake then stepped in to apologise on Cyborg’s behalf, explaining that the gunshots were fired in the excitement of the moment and urging the President to temper justice with mercy.
President Mahama acknowledged the plea but made it clear that the law must take its course.
“Don’t worry about it. The law is the law,” he said.
Cyborg was earlier seen in a viral video firing multiple rounds into the air during Asake’s appearance at the AfroFuture Festival on December 28 at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. The action quickly drew criticism online, with many social media users calling for his arrest due to the danger posed in a crowded environment.
The man reportedly appealed for understanding before firing the shots, but authorities later took him into custody for breaching public safety regulations.
Asake arrived in Ghana days earlier and was one of the headline performers at the AfroFuture Festival, where he thrilled fans with his performance.
The Ghanaian authorities have maintained that due process will be followed in handling the case, despite the high-profile appeal made by the Nigerian music star.
