The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing indigenous innovations in tackling insurgency and other security challenges across the country.
According to Vanguard, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, made this known at the opening of the Nigerian Army Combat Support Arms Training Week 2026 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday.
Represented by the Chief of Personnel Management, Maj. Gen. Adewale Adekeye, Shaibu said the training was aimed at strengthening the combat readiness of personnel and enhancing operational effectiveness.
The event, themed “Strengthening Combat Support Arms Adaptability and Resilience Through Indigenous Innovations for Integrated Operational Support Within a Joint and Multi Agency Framework,” highlights the Army’s focus on homegrown solutions to security challenges.
Shaibu said the Army remained committed to deploying indigenous innovations in its campaign against insurgency and violent crimes across the country.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support to the military.
“The Nigerian Army is committed to using indigenous innovations to fight insurgency and other violent crimes in the country,” he said.
The Army chief further thanked the President for being “strategically committed” to the provision of logistics and the welfare of military personnel.
He urged officers and soldiers to remain professional and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement to ensure the safety of Nigerians during military operations.
Shaibu also commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for hosting the event, describing the planning and hospitality as “superb.”
Speaking at the event, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, described security as the foundation for sustainable development and national progress.
Represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (retd.), Eno said the military had continued to play a significant role in preserving Nigeria’s unity and stability.
He commended the Army for emphasising indigenous approaches to combating insecurity, saying, “This is timely and well intended.”
The governor assured the military of the state government’s continued support in the fight against insecurity and urged participants to take advantage of the training to improve themselves and contribute to the growth of the Nigerian Army.
