Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have unanimously elected Danladi Jatau, representing the Kokona East state constituency, as the new speaker.
The election took place on Friday, and Jatau, a member of the All Progressives Congress, secured the position unopposed.
This decision comes less than three days after the Court of Appeal issued a verdict, ousting the former speaker, Ibrahim Balarebe Abdullahi.
Following the court’s directive, Mohammed Oyanki, representing the Doma south state constituency under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, was elected as the deputy speaker.
The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, November 28, declared Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim of the PDP as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023 election for the Umaisha/Ugya state constituency, leading to the removal of Abdullahi as the speaker.
The newly elected speaker, expressed his commitment to fostering unity within the assembly.
He assured that the cordial working relationship between the legislature and the Executive would be maintained under his leadership.
Jatau also extended gratitude to the assembly members for their confidence in him, pledging to include all members in the decision-making process.
