The All Progressives Congress has formally submitted the names of its candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission , officially confirming President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as its presidential ticket.
The ruling party announced on Sunday that it completed the upload of 471 candidates onto the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal before the electoral commission’s deadline.
The list submitted by the APC comprises its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, 109 nominees for the Senate, and 360 candidates contesting seats in the House of Representatives.
The submission puts an end to speculation that had surrounded the party’s presidential ticket in recent months, confirming that Shettima will remain Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed the development in a statement released shortly after INEC closed its candidate nomination portal.
Yilwatda said the party had fulfilled all the requirements stipulated by the electoral commission for the nomination of candidates seeking the offices covered by the online portal.
“I congratulate our candidates, leaders, and members of APC on the successful 100% upload of our Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP),” he said.
He described the successful completion of the nomination process as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming general election.
He added, “With this milestone achieved, our focus now shifts to mobilisation and preparations for a successful campaign and decisive victory at the polls.”
By meeting the submission deadline, the APC joins the list of political parties that complied with INEC’s timetable for the nomination of candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC had set 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, as the deadline for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their presidential and legislative candidates through its online portal.
The commission had opened access to the nomination portal for political parties on June 26, while the submission of nomination forms commenced the following day in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
With the nomination exercise now completed, political activities are expected to shift toward campaign strategies, voter mobilisation, and other preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
