Members of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday trooped out across the 245 wards in Lagos State to take part in the party’s primary election for House of Representatives candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the commencement of the exercise, Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, appealed to party members to avoid violence, intimidation and any act capable of disrupting the electoral process.

He urged supporters and stakeholders to remain peaceful and orderly during the primaries being conducted to choose candidates for the state’s 24 House of Representatives seats.

Ojelabi, who is also the chairman of APC state chairmen across the country, commended members for their steadfast loyalty and contributions to the growth and stability of the ruling party. He further encouraged party faithful to continue supporting APC programmes and policies in a bid to deepen democratic values nationwide.

The chairman also called for active participation in the exercise, assuring members that adequate security arrangements had been put in place before, during and after the primaries. According to him, the party had established measures to ensure the process remained peaceful, transparent and credible, while also providing equal opportunities for all aspirants contesting in the election.

He, however, warned that the APC would not tolerate any act capable of causing unrest or disunity during the exercise, irrespective of the individuals involved.

“We assure our teeming supporters of their safety and security as they come out to vote in this historic primary election of our party, as everything that could impede their peace and progress has been taken care of,” he said.

“We therefore warn mischief-makers to have a rethink, as we will not condone any act of sabotage.”

Ojelabi also instructed aspirants to caution their supporters against engaging in activities that could disrupt the smooth conduct of the primaries. He stressed that any aspirant found to be connected to violence or disturbances during the exercise could face strict disciplinary action in line with the peace accord signed with the party.

According to him, sanctions for offenders may include disqualification from the contest, suspension or outright expulsion from the APC.
