Shake-up in police as FCT, Enugu,11 commands get new commissioners

The remains of a policeman killed by kidnappers, Inspector Adewumi Abiola, was laid to rest in his family home, in Igbemo Ekiti, Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Wednesday, as tears flowed freely.

WuzupNigeria had reported that Abiola was killed by gunmen who attempted to abduct some expatriates working on the Ogun/Oyo State Railway Project he was supposed to protect.

The slain policeman’s corpse was brought from Ibadan by a team of officers to his ongoing building project in Igbemo Ekiti, where his remains were buried amid wailing and lamentations, The Nation reported.

He is survived by an 80-year old mother, Mrs. Olubiyo Abiola, a young wife, and four female children.

Elder sister to the policeman, Mrs. Caroline Bamigboye, said Abiola had to be laid to rest quickly because his body was riddled with bullets.

Worthy of commendation was the efforts put in by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police for the quick release of Abiola’s body for burial, the former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti Council, and uncle to the deceased, High Chief Laolu Omosilade, also said.

Omosilade added, “The most pathetic aspect of the old woman was the fact that his brother, who had a hunchback, was also gruesomely murdered by alleged ritualists about four years ago along Aramoko /Itawure road, in Ekiti State.

“The woman is seriously troubled and traumatised. She relied on Adewumi for survival and that life support has been removed now. People must show empathy towards this distraught woman.

“They must come out and display humanitarian help towards her as a citizen of this nation,” the ex-NUJ Chief said.
