Anambra whistle-blower accuses court registrar of N1m bribe

Published

The lawyer representing a detained whistle-blower in Anambra State, Daniel Emeh, is in a dispute with a Deputy Court Registrar at the Federal High Court, Awka, over an alleged N1 million bribe for his client’s release.

Emeh, a member of the National Youth Service Corps serving with the Nigeria Police, was arrested in connection with allegations of human organ trafficking, kidnapping, and killing of suspects after extorting them, which are under investigation by the Force Headquarters.

Emeh’s lawyer, Justus Ijeoma, has petitioned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court over his client’s continued detention despite court bail.

He accused the Deputy Chief Registrar, Nkem Mba, of unprofessional conduct in processing his client’s bail. Ijeoma alleged that Mba was deliberately refusing to process Emeh’s bail because he refused to pay N1 million she demanded.

Mba denied the allegation, stating that she does not need to accept bribes to perform her duties.

She claimed that it was Emeh’s father who offered her a bribe in the presence of her staff, which she rejected.

Mba also explained further that Emeh had not been released because he had not met his bail conditions and threatened to report Ijeoma’s allegations to the police.
