Anambra truck driver, conductor die in auto crash
A tragic accident unfolded on Friday along the Owerri-Ihiala expressway in Ihiala, Anambra state, claiming the lives of a truck driver and his conductor.
The incident occurred near Azia junction and involved a Mercedes truck with the registration number XD131NSH, operated by an unidentified commercial driver.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver, traveling at a high speed, lost control and crashed into a large gutter by the roadside, leading to the fatal accident.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the incident, stating that the crash’s cause was excessive speed and loss of control. In expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Irelewuyi issued a caution to motorists, urging them to avoid excessive speed and adhere to safe speed limits.
“Two people comprising 2 male adults were involved in the crash; 2 male adults, the driver and his conductor were killed,” Irelewuyi revealed. He further informed that the deceased victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala by Good Samaritans before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team.
Providing details on the aftermath of the accident, Irelewuyi said, “The FRSC rescue team has removed the debris littered on the expressway, and normalcy in human and vehicular movement has been restored.”
