Anambra gov flags off Benito Ozigbo road construction project



Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, officially commenced the construction of the Chief Benito Ozigbo Drive–Umuezu Awovu–Uruokwe Village road, situated off the old Enugu/Onitsha expressway in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor, represented by the Njikoka Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Chief Clems Aguiyi, expressed the government’s steadfast commitment to enhancing infrastructure across the state.

He commended the collaboration between the private sector and the government in executing road projects within the six communities comprising the local government area.

Governor Soludo stated, “About 7 kilometers of the road have been constructed so far under this arrangement, and we are optimistic that more of such projects will be completed in the nearest future. The state government will continue to collaborate with the private sector to develop internal and rural roads. We also call for concerted efforts to enhance security, which will further attract projects.”

The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpe, applauded the state government for embarking on the project for the public good.

He urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the specifications outlined for the project.

Chief Benito Ozigbo, the facilitator of the project, represented by Nze Romanus Obeleagu, expressed gratitude for the state government’s timely intervention.

He described the project as a realization of a long-standing dream after years of routine palliative measures.

Members representing Njikoka 1 and 2 State Constituencies, Hon Chidi Ibemeka and Jude Akpua, emphasized the importance of unity in society and called for more collaborative projects. Chinedu Aniekwe, Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance Njikoka Local Government Area, highlighted the government’s call for public community-private partnership and a “think home” philosophy.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Chinedu Nwoye, reiterated the state government’s commitment to extending projects to every community.

The Managing Director of Regency And Gold Ltd, Chief Clems Nwafor, assured the community of delivering a road of the highest standard.

He pledged to reconstruct structures affected during construction and committed to completing the project before December 25, 2023, to alleviate traffic congestion.

Residents, including Councillor Hon Ugezu Chidozie, noted the positive impact of the project on local development and erosion control.

They urged the contractor to uphold high standards throughout the construction process.
