The All Progressives Congress leadership in Anambra State has opposed the appointment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo as the state coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election, calling for an immediate reversal of the decision.
In a letter dated October 13, 2026, and addressed to the Director-General of the PBAT Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, the party leaders described the decision to appoint Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, as inappropriate and one that could undermine the electoral fortunes of the APC in Anambra State.
The letter, signed by Dr. Prince C. N. Ukachukwu, leader of the APC in Anambra State; Senator Emmanuel Anosike, the state chairman; and Sir Obiora Okpala, the state secretary, acknowledged the authority of the party’s national leadership to constitute a campaign council capable of securing Tinubu’s re-election. However, they argued that assigning the responsibility to a sitting governor from another political party could compromise the interests of APC candidates in the state.
The party leaders maintained that the Anambra chapter had experienced and dedicated members with the grassroots connections and organisational strength required to coordinate the President’s campaign effectively without relying on a political figure from another party.
Reaffirming their support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, the leaders disclosed that the state chapter had set an electoral target of securing more than 80 per cent of the votes in Anambra for the President in the 2027 election.
“APC Anambra will mobilise vigorously for President Tinubu and, at the same time, campaign decisively for its own candidates at all legislative levels,” the letter stated.
The APC leaders further warned that Soludo’s position as an APGA governor could create competing political interests during the election, given that candidates of both parties are expected to contest for seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Anambra State House of Assembly in 2027.
They also raised concerns over the campaign slogan, “Progressives Are Working Together,” questioning whether the proposed alliance would serve the interests of the APC or give APGA candidates an electoral advantage in legislative contests across the state.
According to the party leaders, APGA candidates in Anambra had not demonstrated sufficient commitment to supporting Tinubu during their campaigns. They cited this as a reason to question the decision to place Soludo in charge of coordinating the President’s campaign in the state.
The APC leaders also pointed to the party’s performance in the November 2025 Anambra governorship election, claiming that the party secured more than 100,000 votes under the leadership and candidacy of Prince Ukachukwu.
They argued that the electoral outcome reflected the existence of a viable political structure within the Anambra APC and questioned why none of the party’s established leaders had been considered for the coordination role.
The leaders cautioned that retaining Soludo’s appointment could erode party unity, discourage grassroots supporters and threaten the electoral chances of APC candidates seeking legislative positions in the state.
They also called on the Presidential Campaign Council to define clear operational boundaries for its activities in Anambra, insisting that the platform should focus exclusively on securing Tinubu’s re-election rather than advancing the legislative ambitions of APGA candidates.
The party further urged the campaign council to acknowledge and safeguard the independent electoral interests of APC candidates contesting for Anambra’s three senatorial seats, 11 federal constituencies and 30 state constituencies in the 2027 general election.
