Operatives of the Ekiti State Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 19-year-old suspect, identified as Samuel, for alleged phone snatching in Oye Ekiti, the headquarters of Oye Local Government Area.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by Abiodun Adeleye, the Head of Communications for Ekiti Amotekun Corps, in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

Adeleye revealed that Samuel, upon interrogation, admitted to his involvement in phone thefts. He also named two alleged accomplices—20-year-old Sanusi Garuba and another individual identified as Tosin—who were later apprehended by Amotekun operatives.

“The arresting Amotekun officers at Oye Ekiti stated that the suspect, Samuel, upon interrogation, confessed his involvement in such stealing acts,” Adeleye said.

Samuel alleged that Tosin lured him into theft, teaching him how to excel at phone snatching. “He further mentioned another co-suspect, Tosin, who he said lured him into theft to have become an expert at phone snatching,” Adeleye added.

The suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye Ekiti for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

The spokesperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to combating crime in Ekiti State under the leadership of its Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Olu Adewa.

“We remain dedicated to flushing out criminals and their activities to ensure the safety of all residents,” Adeleye stated.
