Amotekun apprehends 29 criminals in Ondo

Published

Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun,  has apprehended 29 individuals suspected of criminal activities in Ondo State over the past week.

The commander of the state’s Amotekun, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this information while presenting the suspects to the media on Monday in Akure.

Adeleye revealed that the arrested individuals were involved in offenses such as kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, theft, and more.

Notably, among the apprehended was an ex-convict released from a correctional center on January 1, who was rearrested on January 4 for the same burglary offense that led to his initial imprisonment.

“In the past week, we have detained 29 suspects engaged in various forms of criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, shoplifting, motorcycle theft, and others. What stands out is the recurrence of certain criminals. For instance, one individual left the correctional center on January 1 and, in less than a week, committed burglary again,” Adeleye explained.

He added that the arrested individuals included violators of the state’s anti-grazing law and those engaged in illegal possession of firearms, emphasizing the diligent efforts of the corps and other security agencies in maintaining safety during the year-end festivities.

Adeleye praised the security personnel for preventing bank robberies and major incidents of robbery in the state during this period. He stated that the suspects would undergo prosecution once investigations by the corps are complete.

The corps commander also urged criminal elements in the state to reform their ways in the new year or be prepared to face the full consequences of the law when apprehended.
