Published

A faith-based group, Christian Solidarity Worldwide – Nigeria, has organized a prayer session for the detained proprietor of an orphanage in Kano, Du Merci Children Development Ministry, Prof. Solomon Tarfa.

The police had on Christmas arrested the proprietor on an allegation that he was operating an illegal facility.

He was arraigned before a Magistrate Court 29, Kano and later detained.

Worried by this development, the CSW based in England, the United Kingdom, held a prayer/ advocacy session for the detained proprietor at the ECWA Gospel Church, Barnawa, Kaduna on Wednesday.

CSW’s Country Chief Operating Officer, Agera Teman Hiti during the church service, expressed concern over the alleged persecution of the proprietor of the orphanage.

She said the continued detention of the proprietor for over 68 days without bail, was unacceptable.

She added that the group won’t cease praying until Tarfa was released from detention, noting that “if Prof. Tarfa couldn’t get justice from man, he will get it from God.”

She called on God for swift intervention on behalf of the proprietor and the children taken to various government-owned orphanages, who might be held under dangerous conditions.

Speaking, wife of the proprietor, Mrs Mercy Tarfa, lamented how state officials invade their home and arrested her husband like a hardened criminal.

She also described as unfortunate and troubling attitudes of some Christian leaders during their tribulations.

She called on Christians across the country to unite in faith against the perceived persecution of Christians in the land.

She said:

“My husband was arrested and detained since December 25, 2019. He is at the Kano Central prison located behind the Emir’s palace in Kano.

“For over two months and some days now, it was only last week Monday that I was allowed to see him because they told us that they was an order that only his lawyers should be allowed access to him.

“The way the police and NAPTIP officials invaded our home, it was like they were out to arrest a hardened criminal. The police alone were about 30 and all of them, had guns. The children were scared.

“He was charged to court on the 29 of December, since that time it was one adjournment or the other. They have refused him bail.”
