Akpabio leads delegation to Namibia for late president Geingob’s funeral
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is set to lead a presidential delegation to attend the state funeral of the late President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, scheduled for Saturday.
In a letter dated February 22, 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed the Senate President as a special envoy and leader of the Nigerian delegation to the event, which will take place in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.
A statement from Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Eseme Eyiboh, confirmed this development. According to the program, the memorial service and burial services for Geingob will be held at Independence Stadium on February 24, followed by interment at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek on February 25.
Eyiboh emphasized that the trip aims to demonstrate Nigeria’s solidarity with Namibia’s government and its people. Additionally, it will convey Nigeria’s leader’s condolences and revived assurances of sincere regards to the country.
The delegation will also include Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, and Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ya’u Shehu Darazo.
