Afenifere, Oloffa, back Amotekun
National leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, has called for amicable resolution of disagreement regarding Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun.
He also declared support for governors in the region on the matter, saying security for resident must be the priority of any government.
Briefing newsmen of resolutions reached at the meeting of Afenifere held in his residence in Osogbo, Pa Fasanmi, called for support for the governors to ensure success of Amotekun initiative.
He said, “We are happy for what the governors have done. Security is very important to every nation.
A situation in which people can not sleep with their two eyes close is not good for a nation, a situation whereby lives and property are not safe, is not good for a nation and our state governors have taken a step and we shall give them all the necessary support they need.
“We also call on the public that internal vigilance is at the liberty. We must look out when we see stranger around the premises, you must alert the security people.
“The mere fact that the governors of the west can come together and take a decision is good for Yoruba people, we stand united and firm; no shaking and we have the confidence that the outcome of the Amotekun outfit will benefit the people.
“Nobody should politicise it. It is a clean outfit for securing lives and properties. There is no politics in this.”
Meanwhile, Oloffa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamonsi has described the agitation against Amotekun as unnecessary.
The royal father in a chat with our correspondent in Apomu, during a call on Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Afolabi.
Oba Gbadamonsi said security in the mould of Amotekun had been in existence for long in various parts of the country.
According to him, the local security men called ‘Neighborhood Watch’ existed in Offa his town, adding that he and some indigenes had been supporting the group to ensure safety of lives and properties.
He said, “the agitation against Amotekun is unnecessary. It has been existing long before now. Amotekun is just like bringing them together and giving them a new name. In our town, we register them with the police.
” The police know them. When they make arrest, they send to the police. Police know them. They are not new.”
