Napoli and Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, has expressed his determination to clinch the African Cup of Nations title currently underway in Ivory Coast.

In response to criticisms regarding his recent goal drought during the tournament, Osimhen addressed the issue in an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, affirming his confidence in his ability to deliver crucial goals when needed most.

He acknowledged that goal droughts are common among strikers but remained unwavering in his commitment to the team’s success.

Osimhen remarked, “I know that when the time comes, my goals will come for sure. I know that one for sure. I’m a striker, I can go ten games without scoring which is normal.”

Undeterred by external opinions, Osimhen emphasized his primary focus on advancing through the tournament and ultimately lifting the AFCON trophy with the Nigerian team. He stressed, “I’m focused on making sure that the team continues to progress and get to our target which is winning the AFCON. This is what I am after.”

Despite Nigeria’s creation of the most significant scoring opportunities (13) in the group stage of the tournament, Osimhen has not been able to find the back of the net.

As Nigeria prepares to face Cameroon in the round of 16 clash in Abidjan on Saturday, Osimhen remains hopeful of bolstering his goal tally and contributing to the team’s advancement in the competition.
