AFCON: Super Eagles becomes top ranking team left after Morocco, Senegal exit
Nigeria’s Super Eagles emerge as the highest-ranked team remaining in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, following South Africa’s surprising 2-0 victory over Morocco on Tuesday night.
Senegal, previously the top-ranked team on the continent and reigning champion, was eliminated before the game, adding to the tournament’s unpredictability.
Morocco, the first African country to reach the World Cup semi-finals, entered the match as heavy favorites against South Africa, who faced challenges advancing beyond the group stage.
However, second-half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena propelled the Bafana Bafana to a remarkable triumph over the Atlas Lions.
