AFCON: Senegal, Cameroon enter knockout phase

Published

Cameroon orchestrated a stunning comeback against The Gambia, sealing a spot in the last 16.

The highly charged match featured late VAR drama and disallowed goals, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. Christopher Wooh’s decisive header in the dying moments secured a 3-2 victory for Cameroon.

Despite The Gambia’s spirited effort, including a disallowed goal for handball, they failed to secure a single point in the campaign, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

Concurrently, Senegal exhibited their football prowess, dominating Group C with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Guinea.

The reigning champions demonstrated their class as Abdoulaye Seck’s commanding header from Krepin Diatta’s free-kick broke the deadlock just after the hour mark.

Iliman Ndiaye’s clinical finish in the dying moments solidified Senegal’s perfect group stage record.

Despite a disallowed goal for Sadio Mane, who earlier missed an open goal, Senegal’s stellar performance earned them the top spot in Group C.

This victory propels them with confidence into the knockout stages, reinforcing their status as formidable contenders for the Africa Cup of Nations title.
