Published

Arsenal outcast, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss Gabon’s opening match at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after testing positive for Covid-19.

WuzupNigeria reported that the Gabonese had been ousted from Arsenal’s first team due to disciplinary reasons which led Mikel Arteta to strip him of the club’s captaincy.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has not played for The Gunners since December 6.

UK Sun reported that Aubameyang who tested positive upon arrival in Cameroon had met up with his Gabon teammate Mario Lemina in Dubai earlier this week before landing in Cameroon.

Aubamyang, 32, and Lemina, 28, were spotted partying in the Arab country.

The former Southampton and Fulham midfielder Lemina, who now plays for French side Nice, has also since tested positive, the British publication reported.

Gabon will be without the pair for their Group C camping at the 33rd AFCON tournament against Comoros on Mon, 10 January and the game against the Black Stars of Ghana four days later.

Aubameyang who is the Gabonese national team captain and Lemina could however be available for their final group game against Morocco.
