Gelson Dala’s stellar performance propelled Angola towards the Africa Cup of Nations last 16 as they secured a 3-1 victory over Mauritania.

Dala showcased his goal-scoring prowess by reacting quickly to a corner rebound, unleashing a shot that ricocheted off the turf and into the roof of the net, giving Angola an early lead.

Sidi Amar responded for the Lions of Chinguetti just before halftime, leveling the score with a dazzling solo run and an impressive finish.

However, Angola quickly regained control in the second half, with Gelson Dala and Gilberto both finding the back of the net to make it 3-1.

Despite Mauritania’s Aboubakary Koita scoring a spectacular consolation goal, Angola’s victory ensured they are guaranteed to advance.

They now only need a single point in their final group-stage encounter against Burkina Faso, who also have four points after a 2-2 draw with Algeria earlier on Saturday.

The upcoming clash between Angola and Burkina Faso, scheduled for Tuesday at 20:00 GMT, will determine the final standings in the group and solidify Angola’s position in the knockout stage of the tournament.
