Adeleke imposes curfew in Osun amid communal clash

In response to the ongoing conflict between the communities of Ifon and Ilobu, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has imposed a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The decision was announced by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.

Alimi stated in a signed statement, “Following the just concluded state security meeting, Osun state government has taken the following decisions aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the warring communities of Ifon and Ilobu: That a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew will be imposed with immediate effect starting from today, Tuesday, the 30th of Jan 2024 on the warring communities.”

To address the conflict, the government will establish a joint task force involving traditional chiefs of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
Additionally, a high-powered stakeholders meeting will be convened with traditional chiefs, rulers from the three communities, government officials, and security chiefs in attendance.

A contingent of security personnel, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, will be deployed to the affected communities immediately.

The government has mobilized all necessary security personnel to address the situation, expressing sympathy for those who lost loved ones in the renewed violence.

Alimi emphasized that Governor Adeleke, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, approved the curfew based on a review of the security situation.

He warned that individuals or groups found instigating violence, knowingly or unknowingly, would face necessary prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.
