The African Democratic Congress has announced that its newly elected state executives and other party officials will not assume office until their formal swearing-in, scheduled for May 12, 2026, or a later date to be communicated by the party.

In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC emphasized that the tenure of the newly elected officers does not begin immediately after their emergence from the polls.

“The tenure of all newly elected state executives and other party officers shall not commence until the expiration of the tenure of the current executives and their formal inauguration by the Party on May 12, 2026, or on any later date that may be officially communicated,” the statement said.

The party underscored that the current officeholders remain in charge until the transition process is fully completed, maintaining continuity in leadership across its structures.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all existing executives remain the duly recognised officers of the Party until the completion of this constitutional transition process,” Abdullahi stated.

ADC further warned incoming officials against taking premature actions that could disrupt party operations or create uncertainty within its ranks.

“Accordingly, all newly elected executives, particularly at the state level, are advised to take note and desist from any action, representation, or conduct that may contravene this clear constitutional directive or create confusion within the party structure,” the statement added.

Reiterating its stance on internal governance, the party affirmed that the transition will strictly comply with its constitutional guidelines and democratic principles.

“The ADC remains committed to orderliness, discipline, and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes,” Abdullahi said.
