Action Alliance slams senate decision on e-transmission of election results
The Action Alliance on Saturday slammed the ninth Senate for the “anti-people” decision to vote against electronic transmission of election results.
In a statement in Benin City, Edo State, the party national chairman, Adekunle Omeaje, said that the move will cost most of the Senators who voted against the reform their seats in the 2023 general election.
The PUNCH reports that Omeaje made the assertion while receiving a new member, Engr Solomon-David Okanigbuan – who aspires to contest the 2023 presidential election under the party.
WuzupNigeria reported that the National Assembly was divided last week as senators, mostly from the All Progressive Congress, voted against the usage of e-transmission of election results, while senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party voted in favour of the reform, making “for or against” a party affair.
However, Omeaje accused the senators who voted against the reform of greed and fear of failure.
He said, “If our children have been writing exams like JAMB, WASSCE, and NECO, and the results were transmitted electronically, why can’t our election results be transmitted electronically?
“I must say that the decision is anti-people. What is so special about transmitting elections electronically. I was here during the gubernatorial election in Edo State and election results were transmitted electronically.
“The Independent National Election Commission should be allowed to be truly independent, Prof Momudu Yakubu wants to do the right thing, the commission should be given total independence.”
