The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, who was kidnapped by armed men along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road, has been freed.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed her release on Thursday, stating that she was rescued unharmed during a coordinated operation involving the police, military, other security agencies and local vigilante personnel.
In a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, security operatives were said to have intensified pressure on the abductors during the rescue effort, which eventually led to her release.
The statement read, “One Mrs Ogunleye Grace, the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, who was allegedly kidnapped on May 20, 2026 by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums, has been rescued unhurt.
“The breakthrough came as a result of a joint operation by the Police, the Military and other security agencies as well as the local security personnel, who embarked on a rescue mission and mounted pressure on the hoodlums.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Adegoroye Micheal, directed that a detailed investigation be carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction and track down those behind the incident.
The police commissioner reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state and appealed to the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
