Sunusi Kwankwaso, a Special Adviser to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned from his position following the governor’s exit from the New Nigeria People’s Party.
The resignation became public on Friday through a video posted on Facebook by Sunusi’s media aide, Saifullahi Alhassan.
In the video, Sunusi said his decision was based on reports that Governor Yusuf had withdrawn from the NNPP and was expected to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
He disclosed that he had earlier prepared a resignation letter but was unable to submit it through the appropriate official channels.
“After learning that the governor had left the NNPP and was expected to move to the APC, I tendered my resignation, but it was not received,” he said.
Sunusi added that the resignation letter was also sent to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, where it was likewise not accepted.
“This video is to officially notify the public that I have resigned from my role as a political adviser. I am grateful for the chance to serve and for the work we carried out together over the last two years,” Sunusi stated.
He, however, ruled out the possibility of joining the APC, reaffirming his loyalty to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
“I will not abandon Kwankwaso or the Kwankwasiyya movement. My loyalty remains with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and I have no intention of joining the APC,” he affirmed.
Sunusi’s resignation comes amid rising political uncertainty in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s reported departure from the NNPP, a development that has allegedly triggered resignations and shifts in political allegiance among government officials and party members.
