The police on Wednesday arraigned a taxi driver, Elijah Chikwado, 59, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja over alleged breach of trust and cheating.

Chikwado, residing beside Idu Karmo Court in Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Mrs. Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the matter was reported by one Christian Ibya at the Karmo Police Station on July 26.

Ukagha said that the complainant gave the defendant his Golf 3 wagon car to use for commercial purposes and to be remitting N3, 000 daily but that the defendant failed to remit the money as agreed.

She told the court that the defendant also damaged the car and refused to repair it.

Ukagha said the total amount needed to repair the damaged car was N15, 500, apart from the N, 3000 expected to be remitted daily by the defendant.

The prosecutor said the offenses contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

Chikwado, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for further hearing.
