Six Nigerian artistes who were obviously inspired by daddy

There are thousands of artistes in Nigeria who have succeeded in their own rights. All of them have stories unique to them. Some of them were identified for their talents in churches or mosques, some of the were discovered at parties. Yet some had to prove their worth in front of a small audience at small talent shows while others had to slug it out in front of millions of television audience in addition to the multitude of studio audience.

For a few however, the talent was partly inherited from daddy and nurtured at home. Wuzup Naija presents a list of Nigerian artiste who were obviously motivated into doing what they do by their fathers.

1. Clarence Peters

Yes. The same Clarence shot it! The popular music video director and CEO of CAPital Dream Pictures. Clarence Peters is the son of Afro Juju veteran Sir Shina Peters. It may be hard to say the 33-year-old got all his talent from daddy though because mummy, Clarion Chukwura-Abiola is also a talented veteran actress. So While it may be concluded that The filmaker was inspired by daddy because he specializes mainly on making music  videos, it can be said with quiet an authority that mummy’s influence remains key.

Dare Art-Alade

The multi award-winning musician and singer-songwriter, Darey is the son of the renowned Nigerian entertainer, Art(hur) Alade. Darey as a little boy, got his first exposures to showbiz especially music by listening to his Jazz musician daddy’s collection. Then he moved to getting real life experience by following him to concerts.

Darey is among a few artists who combined the family inspiration with a big break  on a very big stage. Though he has always been playing music, he came to limelight during the 2004 edition of Project Fame Academy, a well renowned Reality TV show and continent-wide talent hunt and emerged third in the contest.

Kunle and Gabriel Afolayan

Kunle and Gabriel Afolayan are children of pioneer Nigerian actor and film producer Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known by his stage name,  Ade Love.While Kunle the older of the two picked acting, directing and film production, baby brother, Gabriel added music to his own. Their dad, who died in 1996 was known to feature music prominently in his art.

The duo needs no introduction just like their dad, Fela Anikulapo Kuti needs no introduction. His music Afro beat has gathered followers throughout the world. It will continue to be so because Femi and Seun have kept the flag flying.  Femi started playing the Saxophone when he was 15. With his socially conscious songs he has had four Grammy nominations. While baby brother Seun has also been active on tours and festivals across the world.
