The Rivers State Police Command has relieved the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost of their duties and ordered a full investigation, following reports that suspected cultists renovated the outpost.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command said it had taken note of a trending social media report and a circulating video alleging that suspected cultists renovated the outpost and visited the facility on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project.
The Command condemned any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force, or of giving legitimacy, recognition or acceptance to suspected cult groups or other unlawful organisations.
It stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, and must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.
Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the Command said it maintains zero tolerance for criminality and for any conduct that undermines public confidence in the Police.
It said the two officers have been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of investigations.
The commissioner also ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the veracity of the allegations.
The probe will seek to determine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who financed or facilitated the renovation; the police officers who authorised or approved the project; whether due procedures were followed; whether any officer breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Force; and the extent of any involvement by police personnel.
The command said it welcomes legitimate community support for improving police facilities, in line with Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
However, it insisted that such support must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.
The investigation, it said, would establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation, adding that no donation or assistance gives immunity from investigation or prosecution.
The command restated that it would not condone unprofessional conduct, compromise, or any form of improper association with criminal elements by any police officer, and that all personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability.
It said it remains committed to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime, and promised that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable, in line with the outcome of the investigation and existing laws.
