Sunrise Power promoter Leno Adesanya has rejected claims linking him politically to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki. However, as the recognised Mambilla promoter, he clarified his position on these allegations.
According to Vanguard, Adesanya said attempts to portray his relationships with the two men as evidence of political interests in the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project were misleading. They did not represent his true activities as Mambilla promoter.
He insisted that his focus had always been completing the long-delayed power project. As Mambilla promoter, his vision remains unchanged.
Adesanya declares support for Tinubu
The businessman also publicly backed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
“I am a Yoruba man and more Tinubu than Atiku,” Adesanya said.
He argued that his career had brought him into contact with people across political and business circles. He said that such relationships should not automatically suggest political allegiance. Moreover, Adesanya’s work as Mambilla promoter is focused solely on the project’s completion.
Adesanya said he had repeatedly sought an amicable resolution to disputes surrounding Mambilla.
“I wrote several times, even against the advice of my lawyers, to settle amicably towards the development of the project,” he said.
Mambilla dispute remains in focus
His comments follow renewed scrutiny of the project. This comes after an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration tribunal ruled in Nigeria’s favour in its dispute with Sunrise Power.
Adesanya described attempts to connect him politically to Atiku and Dasuki as the work of “mischief-doers and political detractors.”
The Mambilla project in Taraba State was designed as a major hydroelectric facility capable of significantly increasing Nigeria’s electricity supply.
