Nigerian comedian and content creator Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has opened up about a difficult period of financial hardship. According to The Guardian, Mr Macaroni disclosed in a post on X on Saturday that he struggled to ask for help despite being accustomed to supporting others. However, financial pressures forced him to borrow money and seek assistance when facing his own financial hardship.
“I am used to always giving and hardly ever receiving because everyone thought I had in abundance. I have also always found it difficult to ask for help,” he said.
The comedian said the past few years tested him in ways he could not understand. Over time, those challenges eventually pushed him close to giving up as the pressure of Mr Macaroni financial hardship increased.
“I asked for help everywhere and anywhere I could think of and I was on the verge of giving it all up,” he added.
Mr Macaroni recalls life-changing support
Mr Macaroni revealed that an unnamed person eventually stepped in and settled everything he owed.
He declined to reveal the benefactor’s identity, explaining that the person would not be pleased if publicly named.
“God used one person to settle all that I owed! And this help came over and over again! I don’t think any sane person would do what he did for me without God’s intervention,” he said.
He explained that the assistance restored his hope at a point when he believed everything was over.
The content creator also thanked members of his close circle, whom he referred to as “Mr Macaroni & Friends.” They stood by him during the difficult period.
Don Jazzy, Osimhen receive special praise
Mr Macaroni singled out Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy for supporting him financially since his university days.
“To Don Jazzy, who has been giving me since my university days up till now, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do, not just for me but for so many others!!!” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji for their support.
Mr Macaroni said messages from people he had previously helped left him emotional. This was particularly because he could no longer remember many of the gestures they mentioned.
“I cried so much last night and this morning. I have seen lots of messages from different people about things I did for them at different times, most of which I don’t even remember,” he said.
Mr Macaroni reflects on financial lessons
The comedian maintained that despite his financial struggles, he does not regret using his resources to support others. Ultimately, Mr Macaroni financial hardship made him appreciate his acts of kindness even more.
“I don’t and will never regret anything I have ever done in my life to make the lives of others better in even the smallest way possible,” he said.
He added that the challenges of recent years taught him important lessons and gave him greater clarity.
Mr Macaroni has previously spoken publicly about his financial difficulties. He has also supported others through charitable gestures, including a N500,000 donation to PEFTI Film Institute in 2022. Above all, Mr Macaroni financial hardship story serves as an inspiration for those going through similar situations.
He said he is now in a better place and remains grateful for both the support he received and the lessons learnt from the experience.
