Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has celebrated 15 years since his major breakthrough. He did so with a headline performance at the 2026 Afro Plus Fest in Maryland, United States.
According to The PUNCH, the Grammy-winning singer closed the three-day festival on Sunday at the Northwest Stadium Complex in Landover. He performed before a crowd gathered for the final night.
The milestone comes 15 years after Wizkid rose to mainstream prominence with “Holla at Your Boy.” This song was one of the standout tracks from his debut album, “Superstar.”
Wizkid revisits career-defining songs
The singer used the festival appearance to revisit songs spanning different stages of his career.
His set included tracks such as “Ojuelegba,” “Caro,” “Daddy Yo,” “Bad to Me,” “Essence” and several other fan favourites.
The performance highlighted the evolution of a career that has grown from Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene into major international stages.
Wizkid has since released projects including “Ayo,” “Made in Lagos,” “More Love, Less Ego” and “Morayo.”
His global profile also expanded through collaborations including Drake’s “One Dance.” In addition, he worked on Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl,” for which he earned a Grammy Award.
Afro Plus Fest draws global stars
Wizkid was one of several major names billed for the 2026 Afro Plus Fest.
Davido headlined the opening night, while Jamaican dancehall star Alkaline led the Saturday programme. Wizkid then closed the festival on Sunday.
The wider line-up featured acts including Tems, Ayra Starr, Tiwa, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Lil Baby and Latto.
Festival founder Michael Awosanya previously described Afro Plus Fest as something that had grown beyond a conventional event.
“This sold-out debut proved that Afro Plus Fest is not just an event — it’s a movement,” he said.
For Wizkid, the closing performance doubled as another international appearance. It was also a celebration of a career that has helped push Afrobeats further into the global mainstream.
