Theophy Esuike: Some Nigerian youths are into music to cover up their dubious businesses
The debate that only a few of the new musicians in the Nigerian entertainment industry have the talent to do good music that will stand the test of time has caught the attention of music executive Theophy Esuike.
While some have argued that more youths are delving into music, believing they can get famous overnight and will start making ends means, the Theory-X entertainment boss maintained that they are not only lazy but also using music as cover up for their illegal businesses.
He held that only about 25% of the Nigerian youths in the music industry are true talents, adding that the counterfeits are impatient with egos and desperate to hit stardom by all means.
This he harangued to have caused the increasing rates of song theft and copyright issues in Nigeria – a menace that is now affecting some of the artistes who are already household names in the country.

Recall, recently ‘Danfo Driver’ singers Mad Melon and Mountain black called out singer Tekno for lifting their song ‘Kpolongo’ for his latest release ‘Polongo’ without getting the right to sample the song from them before they eventually settled the rift caused by the theft.
Another similar case is that legendary musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo accusing songstress Simi of stealing his intellectual property in her ‘Joromi’ track and threatened lawsuit. Even respected musician Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba was accused by a burgeoning artiste of stealing his new single ‘Amaka’.
