Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has apologised to fans and organisers after withdrawing from his celebrity boxing rematch against actor Charles Okocha after the first round.
The much-anticipated bout, organised by Balmoral Group on Friday night, ended unexpectedly when Portable declined to continue, leaving spectators disappointed.
In a statement issued by his management team, Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, the singer expressed regret over the outcome and apologised to the organisers, event team, fans, friends, and family members who supported the event.
“We sincerely apologise to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the entire event team, our fans, friends, family and everyone who came out to support Portable at the celebrity boxing event,” the statement read.
The management acknowledged the disappointment caused by Portable’s decision to stop fighting but urged the public to respect his choice.
The statement added that the team accepted responsibility for the incident and appreciated the continued support from fans, while promising that the singer would learn from the experience and improve in future appearances.
The management also praised Balmoral Group for organising the event and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the abrupt ending.
The rematch had generated widespread attention after Charles Okocha invoked a rematch clause following his defeat to Portable in their first celebrity boxing encounter in December 2023. The build-up to the fight was further fuelled by social media exchanges between both entertainers.
Portable entered the contest hoping to bounce back after his earlier celebrity boxing loss to content creator Carter Efe, while Okocha sought revenge for his previous defeat.
However, the fight concluded earlier than expected, with Portable’s decision to withdraw after the opening round sparking reactions from fans and leading to the public apology from his management.
