The Delta State Police Command has arrested 28-year-old Oghenebuba Mamatime, a notorious member of the dreaded Eiye Confraternity who had been on the command’s wanted list for weeks.
In a Friday statement, command spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that four locally fabricated firearms were recovered from the suspect during an operation in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The command spokesman said operatives of Jesse Division, in collaboration with community youths, arrested Mamatime at about 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2026, following a complaint by a man who alleged that the suspect shot him.
Edafe explained that the suspect allegedly shot the victim on July 2, 2026, along Ujomi Road, Jesse Town. He added that the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list ever since.
“Upon arrest of the suspect, three locally made pistols and one locally made single-barrelled gun were recovered from the suspect,” the statement reads in part.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is a member of Eiye Confraternity, was unhappy with the victim over his decision to quit cultism, and in a bid to force him into the confraternity, an argument ensued which led to the shooting.
The suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the synergy between operatives of Jesse Division and the community youths in the fight against cultism and other vices.
He admonished them to maintain the synergy, which should not be limited to cultism but should be extended to drug abuse, kidnapping and other serious crimes in their locality.
The CP also advised members of the public, particularly the youths, to shun all forms of cult-related activities.
