Kenyan detectives in Nairobi’s Kayole area have launched investigations into the death of a 19-year-old woman who fell from the fifth floor of a residential apartment following an alleged dispute with her boyfriend.
Police officers arrived at the scene after a resident reported hearing a loud bang at around 5.40 pm on July 11.
The witness initially suspected the sound had resulted from an electrical fault but later discovered the young woman lying on the ground floor in a pool of blood.
The deceased, identified as Beraka Wambui, suffered multiple injuries believed to have been caused by the fall and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations have revealed that Wambui allegedly engaged in an argument with her 22-year-old boyfriend shortly before the incident.
Officers from the Crime Scene Investigation unit in Kayole examined and documented the scene as part of the ongoing probe. Police also recovered household items with blood stains from the apartment, which were preserved as exhibits for forensic analysis.
The boyfriend was arrested and is currently being held by police as detectives seek to establish the events that led to the woman’s death.
Wambui’s body was taken from the scene and transferred for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Cases involving people falling from elevated buildings have recently increased, with police also probing two similar incidents reported last week in Kasarani and Kilimani areas of Nairobi. The victims in those cases are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, police said on Monday.
Meanwhile, police in Homa Bay County have commenced investigations into the killing of a 50-year-old man whose body was discovered abandoned in a thicket near Ombek Trading Centre in Rachuonyo South Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Saturday afternoon after residents found the body in the area.
The deceased was identified as Samuel Ochieng Adiengo, 50, a resident of Ombek Village in Kadel Kamidigo Sub-location, Kodera South Location.
Police said Adiengo’s body was found in a thicket located about 30 metres from a house belonging to a local resident. The body had visible bruises on the back.
Preliminary findings indicate that Samuel was allegedly killed inside the suspect’s house before his body was moved and abandoned in the nearby thicket in what investigators believe was an attempt to conceal the crime.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
Crime scene officers processed the area before the body was taken to Rachuonyo Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The main suspect has gone into hiding, prompting DCI detectives to launch a manhunt as efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder continue.
